Salvation Army! Yes, Salvation Army is a thrift shop, and a pretty cool one. It is surprising that sometimes you do get a good purchase in a thrift shop.

プチクレア>
Buying books/CDs/DVDs second-hand is a very good choice. I try to get most of my books second-hand unless I really really want a particular book. Oh yeah, France does have a Book-Off Store! Is the French one any good? Seems like it is from what you wrote.

Jason>
That's a good idea. Saves you from the hussle of trying to find a shop that has a particular thing you are looking for, then going there, just to find out that they don't have it anymore...

Emi>

Shimo-kita is def. a good place to go for shopping.

I don't think I ever bought clothes second-hand, but if I can I always try to get books, CDs, DVDs second hand. There are quite a lot of second-hand shops for that, from big bookstores that sell french and foreign books (there's even a Book-Off store!!!) to specialized CD stores according to what kind of music you listen to. If you're not in a hurry to get some CD or book, or aren't looking for any specific thing, they can be great ! I bought this morning a japanese-korean-japanese dictionary at Book Off for 30 €; the same dictionary in the "normal" Junku-do bookstore was 75€...

I usually go to the nearest supermarket from my place and do some grocery shopping. :grin:It's one of the regional chain stores and they carry pretty much of everything: food, clothing, commodities, flowers and so on.
Since I live in the country and I'm not a fashion guru, :roll:I hardly ever go downtown for shopping.
btw, do you know the shop called "Salvation Army"?
When I was in NYC, and didn't have a lot of money, like marky just said, :mrgreen:I would buy clothes or things like that at that store. Is Salvation Army also one of those thrift shops? I'd appreciate it if someone answered to the question. :dogeza:
