Bi-lingual Experienced PHP Developer

This coupled with early access to the market for this new medium has enabled us to build a significant lead over potential competitors and forced traditional competitors to evaluate their current business models.

The Opportunity
This is an exciting time for EnglishPod101.com, as we are increasing our ranks to meet the needs of a growing business. We are now looking for a PHP Developer to help build and scale the next generation of the EnglishPod101.com website. This position offers the unique opportunity to work with a highly passionate and dedicated team and to join a great company building an innovative platform at the nexus of language training and web 2.0 technologies.

Job Responsibilities

• Deliver projects on time, error-free, and meeting design criteria. Ensure system coding is thoroughly tested and provides reliable operation.
• Ensure that expectations of managers and developers are met for all projects.
• Ensure that customer facing applications are fully available and implemented on schedule.
• Collaborate with supervisor to maintain defined standards, develop improvements to standard techniques such as documenting code, using company established guidelines, and sharing knowledge.
• Work with managers and other developers to deliver defect free projects on schedule.
• Maintain established turnaround time for project completion and implementation .
• Produce reliable, scalable, and effective solutions that anticipate future growth.

The Ideal Candidate
The right candidate will be effective in a start-up environment. He or she will understand the requirements of working for an Internet venture, where flexibility, resourcefulness, creativity, aggressiveness and drive are highly valued, and have a track record of delivering results in that setting.

Technical Requirements

• 2+ years experience coding in PHP and MySQL
• Proficiency in front-end scripting including HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax
• Experience administering LAMP environments (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
• Solid understanding of performance and scalability issues pertaining to web development
• Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) is a plus
• Web design / graphic design skills is also a plus (Adobe / Macromedia)

General Requirements

• Detail-oriented problem solver that can work independently with little direction
• Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for coding
• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects simultaneously
• BS/BA in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience (current undergraduates considered as well)
• Working knowledge of the English language is a plus
