He believes this is a great way to see the country while relaxing and unwinding for the day. But you have a trick up your sleeve this time. Last time, he embarrassed you by continuously rolling his eyes at you every time you didn’t know the English word for an animal. This time, knowing the agenda ahead of time, you prepared. As you saddle up and head out over the hills, you spot some vultures in the trees. Seizing an opportunity, you call out in English, “Look, those vultures are eyeing that cheetah’s lunch!” Surprised, he looks at YOU and not the vulture. Acting as if you don’t notice, and not missing a beat, you call out in English, “Ooh, hurry! That quail is about to fly away!” Still looking shocked, he decides to try to trick you. He looks around and calls out in English, “Those ducks, they are bobbing in the water.” Calmly, you reply in English, “Yes, there are a few in the water and few over there on the grass too.” Finally you smile, rolling your eyes, and tell him in English, “I guess birds of a feather flock together. You didn’t think I was going to come unprepared again, did you?”

It seems like it takes ten minutes to calm them and their friends down enough so that you can concentrate on one voice at a time! Your son yells in English, “Mom, mom!!! We were at the pond and we saw something moving in the water!!” His friend, equally excited, continues in English, “Come see, come see!! Pleeeease! You point to the little swimmer in the water and tell the boys in English, “That is a frog…and that one there, that is a newt.” The boys stare into the water with a newfound fascination; you can almost hear the wheels spinning in their heads, when they turn and look at you and both reply in English, “Can we keep him, can we keep him?
